Since When Did the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Become Dangerous for the American Public?
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. Its job is to protect the public's health. The Trump administration fired the CDC Director Dr. Susan Monarez this week. Why? According to her, she "refused to rubber stamp unscientific, reckless directives." In other words, she believed in the science of vaccines and protecting people. White House Director Karoline Leavitt explained to the press Dr. Monarez was "not aligned with the President's mission." Scientists join the CDC to implement good and legitimate science (eg. the polio vaccine has reduced occurrences of polio in the 21st century by 99%). After Dr. Monarez was fired, three career officials at the CDC (who strongly believe in decisions based on science and legitimate medical research) resigned: Dr. Demetre Dasklaskis (CDC vaccine chief), Dr. Debra Houry (Deputy Director for Program and Science/Chief Medical Officer) and Dr. Daniel Jernigan (Director of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases). Dr. Jernigan was interviewed and said "It is time to get politics out of public health." What is happening? Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy announced on August 27 emergency use authorizations for Covid 19 vaccines have been terminated and under the updated approvals, only those over 65 and people with existing health problems will be recommended for the Covid 19 vaccine under federal guidelines. This is reckless and bizarre behavior, not leadership looking out for the public's best interest. This is a page straight out of crazytown and not acceptable.
