Personal Journal through the Trump Years

Image
I watched the movie about World War 2 German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer yesterday. The parallels are so scary. How could the German church replace the Bible with a new one Hitler came up with? How could the German church call for the worship of Hitler first in all things as he killed innocent people? What does a church stand for? What are the roles of churches? I was raised a Southern Baptist and went to church every Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday nights. These weekly basic staples were accompanied by GA camp, Youth Camp, Evangelism Explosion (door to door knocking) and mission trips. Yet the very faith I was raised in is as silent as crickets (minus one Music Minister) when Trump and his atrocities are brought up. The religion that taught me to be kind, forgiving and 'treat others as you would have them do unto you' are the forefront of this white Christian nationalism. They see Trump as the last Mohican (and last hope) of holding up white power. History ...

Trump Pardons Big Time Drug Lord While Hypocritically Claiming to Go After Drug Traffickers in Venezuela

Image
President Trump has officially pardoned Honduran ex-president Juan Orlando Hernandez who was sentenced to 45 years for conspiring to import cocaine to the United States. All this, while Trump claims he is going after the drug traffickers in Venezuela. Trump spirals out of control when confronted with the hypocrisy (according to the New Republic): “You’ve made so clear how you want to keep drugs out of the U.S., can you say more about why you would pardon a notorious drug trafficker?” asked one reporter. “Well, I don’t know who you’re talking about,” Trump replied. It was not a particularly comforting response after the president previously revealed he has no idea who he’s pardoning. After the reporter clarified that she was asking about Hernández, Trump scrambled to justify his decision. Ranting Trump said, “Well, I was told—I was asked by Honduras, many of the people of Honduras, they said it was a Biden setup—I don’t mean Biden, look, Biden didn’t know he was alive—but it was the...

Muhammed Ali- My Inspiration

Image
I have an autographed, framed picture of boxer Muhammad Ali in my Fort Worth office. Why, might you ask? Ali was the first boxer to win the heavyweight championship three times, won the Olympic gold medal, and was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated. More than this, he was a good man. He took a stance against the Vietnam War even though it cost him his title. He was a civil rights activist ( recognized as the "Champion of Freedom for his powerful fight for equality, peace and justice) and stood up for the principle all men should be treated with dignity. He was funny, charming and loved people ( his training camps were always open to visitors and he rarely refused an interview) . Ali was as tough as nails in the boxing ring and outside it when it came to fighting for what mattered. He is a true hero of mine. Things I most admire about him: his dedication (persistent training and discipline to be the best), love of people (thereby emanating his charm and...

Trump Threatens Members of Congress with Death

Image
President Donald Trump threatened U.S. Rep. Jason Crow and other Democratic members of Congress with arrest and execution for a video produced reminding members of the military and intelligence community to refuse illegal orders from the Trump administration. Here is the video . In response to this video, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" This is outrageous behavior. From a legal perspective, these folks are reminding government employees they cannot comply with an illegal order. They must follow the law. Trump sees this as treason. It is not. The President does not have the legal authority to tell people to break the law just because he is the Chief Executive of the Executive Branch. No one is above the law in the United States. Trump has gotten away with breaking the law to the point of abandon. His orders to demolish boats with countries we are not at war with, claiming they have drugs, is illegal. He and those carrying out the...

Trump Judge Appointee Strikes Down Trump's New Midterm Congressional Map

Image
Trump's federal judge appointee Jeffrey Brown struck down Texas' new midterm Congressional map (which would have given the Republicans 5 more seats in the House) ruling "Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map.” The main federal law against racial gerrymandering is Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This law prohibits voting practices or procedures that discriminate on the baiss of race, color or membership in a minority group (identified in Section 4f2). This country has a long history or preventing minorities from voting. Due to Jim Crow laws, less than 100 years ago, only 3% of eligible Blacks were registered to vote. The Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the federal government or any state from denying or abridging a citizen's right to vote "on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." It is refreshing to see a panel of justices (2 of 3 being Republican) call Tr...

Trump and Epstein....

So Trump and Epstein were tight friends. Epstein claimed "I was Trump's closest friend for 10 years." Epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution from someone under 18, and later charged by the feds for sex trafficking. Epstein is found dead in his federal prison cell in 2019 before the finalization of his federal charges. Two prison guards charged with watching Epstein the night of his death were charged with lying on prison records. The night Epstein was found he was alone as the prison failed to pair him with someone (as had previously been the case). Epstein's girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell gets convicted of sex trafficking in 2020. She is sentenced to 20 years in prison but meets with U.S. Deputy Attorney Todd Blanche and is then given special accommodations in prison after giving him a rosy report of Trump. It is important to remember Trump denied a $130k hush payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels , but a jury found him guilty of doing so. Is it ...

Trump & His Bullshit Lawsuits

They say the best offense is a good defense. One thing I despise about Trump is his extreme dishonesty and abuse of the court system. He has a history of suing people, entities, companies and organizations as a weapon (not for legitimate legal purposes). The infamous Epstein 50th birthday card is a fact. When the Wall Street Journal reported on it (which has since been released in response to a congressional subpoena since the story), he sued them. Trump sued the Wall Street journal for defamation over this truth (truth is a defense and will set you free) for $10 billion dollars. As Ronald Collins reported, "When it comes to civil litigation, Trump is in a league of his own. By one account, Trump has been involved in more than 4,000 civil lawsuits over the years, ranging from business disputes to defamation and other actions. Even for someone like Trump, who has been involved in a variety of complex business ventures, that is a remarkable number of civil actions. One lesson ...
